A10VSO Control Options: Choosing the Right Control for Your Application
The control type is the most important choice when selecting an axial piston pump — it determines how the pump responds to your system’s pressure and flow demands. The A10VSO series offers several proven control options. This guide explains each one and when to use it.
DR — Constant Pressure Control
Maintains a constant pressure at the pump outlet. Once the set pressure is reached, the swashplate adjusts to deliver only the flow needed to hold pressure. Best for systems with variable flow demand at a fixed pressure, such as clamping and pressing applications.
DRG — Constant Pressure Control, Remotely Set
Functions like DR, but the pressure setting can be adjusted remotely through a pilot port. Useful when pressure must be changed from a machine control panel or PLC.
DFR / DFR1 — Pressure and Flow Control (Load Sensing)
The most common industrial control. Flow follows the load requirement, which reduces energy consumption and heat generation in the circuit. DFR uses an external sense line; DFR1 senses internally with the X port plugged.
FE / FED — Electric Proportional Flow Control
Flow is set steplessly by an electrical input signal, allowing precise control from a controller. Suitable for automated machines requiring adjustable flow without manual intervention.
DFE1 — Electric Proportional Pressure and Flow (P/Q) Control
Both pressure and flow are set electronically. This is the most flexible option for complex, automated hydraulic systems where operating parameters change frequently.
How to Choose
- Fixed pressure requirement → DR or DRG
- Energy-saving variable flow → DFR / DFR1
- PLC-controlled flow → FE / FED
- Full electronic pressure and flow → DFE1
