Understanding the A10VSO Model Code: Variable Displacement Pump Ordering Guide

Understanding the A10VSO Model Code

Every axial piston pump carries a model code that tells you exactly what you have. The A10VSO code structure below helps buyers and service engineers verify that a replacement pump matches the original specification.

What the Code Means

  • A10VSO = Variable displacement axial piston pump, swashplate design
  • E = Optional prefix (project specific)
  • DR / DFR / DFR1 / FE / FED / FHD / DFE1 = Control type
  • 31 = Series (e.g. Series 31)
  • L / R = Direction of rotation (L = counter-clockwise, R = clockwise)
  • O = Open circuit
  • Size (e.g. 71, 100, 140) = Nominal displacement in cm³/rev

Key Operating Parameters

  • Nominal pressure: 250 bar (Series 31)
  • Peak pressure: 315 bar
  • Mode of operation: pump
  • Hydraulic fluid: mineral oil (HFA/HFB/HFC available)

Control Types Explained

  • DR = Pressure control
  • DFR / DFR1 = Pressure and flow control (load sensing)
  • FE / FED = Electric proportional flow control
  • DFE1 = Electric proportional pressure and flow (P/Q) control

Why This Matters for Replacement

When sourcing an aftermarket replacement pump, matching the model code is critical. Series, control type, rotation direction and size must all match your original unit.
